The Good Master. by: Kate Seredy
An old man sat at his mill. "Can you tell us stories?" asked Janci, walking toward him. a few moments later the man led Janci and Kate over to a grassy hill. "What kind of stories do you like?" asked the man looking at Janci. Janci replied "I like stories about dragons and horses and magical!" Kate added "And far away lands!" The man nodded. "Well the story I'm going to tell you is all of those things!"
Long ago there lived a prince named Matyas who was very lazy and never worked. He had a servant named Matyi. Matyi had to do everything for prince Matyas! Even button up his shirt. The prince only liked having fun times and would pick fights with his neighbors! He had no friends. One night the prince must have eaten too much because he had a funny dream. He dreamed of a far away land in which no man could die. They lived forever! Soon the man woke up that morning and was more grumpy then ever! Matyi got irritated and soon blurted out "You are right now being too intolerable! If you would like why don't I get the horses ready so we can find this land." The prince looked at Matyi astonished. "W.....why I haven't thought of that! Yes get the horses ready we shall find this land!" said the prince. Moments later Matyi had everything ready. For hours they traveled. Soon the moon rose and a old man rolled a stone. "Who are you? And where do you come from? If you answer me, I will tell you more about this land." The man looked at the prince. Matyas told the old man where he had come from and who he was. "Ahh! I thought you would be prince Matyas! Come follow me I will show you my village I live in!" Matyi and Matyas followed the stranger into a old dusty funny looking city. People were ugly and beautiful there. They were working. Everyone was working, working, working! They never stopped. People bent over their looms. Others built new houses and even more people were buzzing all over the place! Soon, the old man took them to another old man in a nice little house. "Hey! This looks familiar!" said Matyi. "We will stay here for the night but tomorrow we must be going on to find the land." said Matyas. The old man shrugged. He didn't mind. The next day, they got up and got on their horses and rode in search of the land of his dreams. Soon, they came to a golden gate and guards guarded the front. They opened the gate and in there was a king. "Come in what brings you here?" asked the king. They walked in. "We are looking for a land where man lives forever!" answered Matyas. "Oh you came to the right place! But we don't live forever. We need friendship in your world to live and in ours. If you live here, the way to live forever is to be kind to your neighbors here and also in your world. You can't fight." said the king. "Maybe we should discuss this! You don't have any friends and you're not a friendly person! You can't live here!" said Matyi. They rode on to another city. Soon, they came to a dead looking horrible place. "We can't stay here! This place is the creepiest place I've ever seen!" said Matyi gasping. "Oh hello and welcome. Who are you? And why are you here?" asked a voice in the dark dead hollow. "I am prince Matyas and we are looking for a land that man can live forever!" said the prince. "Ahhh.... yes you shouldn't look anymore! This place is the right place. I am Hatred and my twin brother is named War. How we live is as long as your people fight and have wars and hatred we shall live forever!" said the cold voice. "What do you look like? You sound like you look ugly!" Soon, a red light glowed and he saw a horrid creature standing there. He let out a gasp of horror. They rode as fast as their animals could go.

this is not the beginning to the book and also that's not the end of the story yet..... so yeah.... I would buy "The Good Master" so you know what's going on.
ReplyDeleteIt's also a really good book! I would have your child or parents to read it. Your child might love it though. Also if yourself or your child or friends or family are into horses this would be a perfect birthday or Christmas present!
